Lambs and Spring!

I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since my last blog post. It’s been absolutely crazy around here with lambs and everything else in life that needs attention. I did squeeze in time to make some sourdough bread and visit with my son when he came home for Spring break. The lambs are growing like weeds. The Lincoln lambs are like teddy bears walking around in the pasture. The goats are in the window of time for kidding so barn checks have increased. Our one goat, Hope, is making udder and looks ready to go anytime. I sheared her so that the kids won’t get lost in all that hair. Hand shearing an Angora goat is much different than hand shearing a BFL…it just takes longer. I actually divided it up over a couple of session so she wouldn’t have to stand for such a long time. OMG, I can’t wait for the new kids to come.

A few weeks ago we opened up one of the pastures and let the BFL ewes and lambs lose. The springs in the lambs’ legs took over and it seemed like they all hopped out into the pasture at the same time. What characters! After the hopping stopped they just ran around like wild things. Even a few of the ewes started springing about. It’s good to see that the ewes “still got it” when you see them leap through the air.

I just sheared the bunnies and now it’s on to…..ugh, dare I say…..our taxes. It’s crunch time so no excuses will work. Then after that it’s on to my homework for the Master Spinner Program. I started it last fall but holidays, lambing, knitting, and weaving interrupted my momentum. I’m all registered for my third year in the program and my flights to and from Alberta are booked, so all I have to do is complete the homework from Level 2. I see a lot of late nights coming up. There is no dye work this year but a lot of fiber and color blending and a “raw fleece to finished product” assignment to complete. I’m getting excited…..79 days until I’m Alberta Bound!
