We Got Goats!

Saturday was the day to get the two goat does sheared and put in the barn where they would comfortably wait out the rest of their pregnancy...about two weeks (in my estimation). Before I even got bundled up to spend most of the day outside, my DH heard the high pitch cries of baby goats coming from the hut in the pasture. I was outside in no time. Our doe, Hope, delivered twin doe-lings.

By the end of the day, the second doe, Red, was in labor and delivered a set of twins about 8:00 p.m.-- a doe and a buck. Red had a tougher time in that the first kid had a leg tucked back and the other leg folded under. I did go in and find the legs and brought them forward and then worked with the doe and during her contractions and pushing helped bring the little girl into the world. Then her buck came feet first, but very easily. Both kids are fine and Red was tired. Here are a couple of video clips and pics of the goats:

So much for my estimation of their due dates. Next year I won't cut it so close.

First Day in Snow...

...for the Lincoln lambs, that is. I'm sure many people have had enough snow to last nine lives! I spent about four hours outside on Monday getting stalls cleaned, the creep area set up, and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff. The Lincolns spent the day in a small pasture and for the lambs it was their first taste of snow. They loved it! Lambs love just about anything and snow is no different.

This is "Red". One of our Angora goats. She's checking out the Lincolns. They will be sharing a pasture soon so I want them to get acquainted.

Got Lambs! Got Goats!

A crazy busy day. Woke up to twin Lincoln ram lambs. Earlier than expected so had to scramble around to get a few things done, clean up the lambs and weigh them. Done by 10 a.m. and hadn't had coffee yet, ugh! Lambs doing well. BFLs still sitting around with full udders.

Then off to pick up the new goats. Two bred Angora goats. One white, one red. They settled in nicely and are still deciding on what the llama is all about. I think they are going to be just fine.
