Small Flock Clinic ~~ Good Timing, Good Info

April’s MSBA’s Small Flock Clinic (April 17th) came at the right time. At Suzanne Pufpaff’s Fiber Processing mill the small flock group offered a day of hands-on lamb and wool presentations. First Dr. Heather Ludlam gave a very informative presentation on sheep/lamb health. I definitely have some new information to add to my list of “what to do” and “what not to do”. Then Dr. Ludlam used an artifical uterus and dead lamb fetuses to teach us how to reposition and deal with a dystocia birth. Very helpful!

After the potluck lunch Letty Klein presented a ton of information about wool via a Powerpoint presentation and various fleeces. Letty talked about fleece characteristics and what qualities go into a good show fleece. Then Sue Pufpaff held a discussion about using llamas as livestock guardians. Very interesting stuff. Then Sue conducted a tour of her fiber mill and the felting machine….ooooo, the felting machine!

All in all a great, informative event. Take a look at my photo gallery to see some pics of the day.
